Starfield_ Battlefield 6 and Final Fantasy XIV_ Endwalker _ This Week In Videogames -

this video is brought to you by skillshare friends gamers countrymen lend me your ears and allow me to fill them with gaming news i'm sure bill would have loved that opening if he were alive today he would definitely be liking and subscribing on that one all right ladies and gentlemen enough flirting like we say here in australia we didn't come here to [ __ ] spiders that's a real thing we say by the way let's get this show on the road the biggest world der story this week doing the rounds is the fact that starfield will be an xbox and pc exclusive the news comes courtesy of jeff grubb who this week tweeted quote starfield is exclusive to xbox and pc period this is me confirming it for some reason everyone found this really interesting even though phil spencer said weeks ago that bethesda ips would be exclusive and the fact that microsoft paid seven billion dollars for bethesda and they didn't do that for a laugh they did it so they could build a library of exclusives to compete with sony's crushing dominance in the console market so yeah starfield are still an xbox and pc exclusive just like we always knew it was speaking of console exclusives sony is getting on the offensive after a press cycle that casts doubt on their appetite for risky ventures recent reporting from jason schrei of bloomberg hinted that sony may be playing it a little too safe knocking back pitchers for new ip and choosing to double down on surefire blockbusters from naughty dog and sony santa monica this week playstation studios hermann hulse told wyatt that sony has more than 25 ps5 games in development and half of those are new ip that's a lot it's hard to argue that sony aren't interested in new things when literally half of their portfolio is new things you know who isn't interested in new things blizzard while their flagship franchise's language blizzard has increasingly turned to nostalgia bait to fill the gaps with things like wow classic warcraft for forge and the upcoming diablo 2 resurrected aiming to tide people over until blizzard's next generation of releases hits unfortunately people aren't sticking around quite like blizzard had hoped recent financials show that blizzard has lost almost 30 percent of its active player base in the last three years that's huge in this business that's a very big problem since customers have a lot of choice in the era of free-to-play and when your customers leave your ecosystem it's hard to get them back it doesn't help that overwatch is essentially in cryosleep while everyone waits for the sequel to be released and the blizzard's expansion plans for the future are essentially mobile games with veteran talent leaving blizzard in droves it feels like blizzardneeds a big win and it needs it soon speaking of big companies in need of big wins amazon is about to release their new world mmo rpg and i get the distinct impression that it might be the social media manager's first rodeo this week it was revealed that the game will have an in-game cash shot because of course it will and everyone was like well what are you going to sell in that shop and new world put out this big statement that says at launch all of their store items will be cosmetic but in the future they're going to add quality of life items like rested experience and fast travel imagine playing a [ __ ] mmorpg that charges you for fast travel jesus christ people were rightly roasting this post on twitter leading the official account to respond to one tweet with this absolute banger get this quote it isn't about rushing people to the end game it's about supporting people who don't have as much time to play and helping them reach the end game with the time available to them the crowd was raucous and new world's twitter account mistook that for enthusiasm so they followed up with an encore quote mmos take a tremendous time investment that not everyone has bruce can be a way for someone who doesn't have the time to get more out of the time they can play and support the game and community in another way i actually feel bad for this person because they are so completely out of their depth here throwing out laughable responses that were debunked and ridiculed years ago when publishers first started trotting out this garbagehearing it in 2021 is kind of sad but it's also informative setting the stage for the way amazon plans to approach in-game monetization amazon has had three colossal failures up to this point the grand tour crucible and the now cancelled lord of the rings mmo they need a critical darling to build their rep with core gamers and selling fast travel in an mmo i don't even know what to say i just i i can't anyway let's move on while we're on the topic of micro transactions let's talk about ubisoft this week ubisoft did an earnings call and they talked about their strategy for the future their chief financial officer frederick duggay says that ubisoft quotes are building high-end free-to-play games to be trending towards aaa ambitions over the long term what does this mean in english it means ubisoft are going large in free to play making it a central pillar of their business going forward the quote was taken out of context in some circles suggesting that ubisoft would abandon paid aaa releases but that's not true they will still do those it's just that we're going to see more regular and more meaty free-to-play offerings as well  one example is the division heartland which this week suffered a rather devastating leak when at least one person broke the terms of their nda and shared 20 minutes of gameplay i can't show it here or my channel will get deleted but the footage does depict a pve vp battle royale style game mode that's very similar in structure and substance to what we saw in the survival mode in the division one which was in my view the very best part of the division full stop given that this footage is out there now and given that ubisoft's e3 press conference is around a month away i expect we'll be hearing more about the game then one thing we won't be hearing much about is skull and bones because that [ __ ] got delayed again releasing now in either 2022 or 2023 or 2030 or freaking when the zombie apocalypse hits someone is gonna write a book about that game's development process one day and i will be pre-ordering that [ __ ] the book i mean not the game i mean there's no way i'm pre-ordering a game that's been delayed like eight times come on now battlefield six it's coming at you battle boys is that a thing probably not this week the official battlefield account tweeted out the next entry in the battlefield franchise will be revealed sometime in june no specific date yet it follows comments from ea ceo and handsome jack cosplayer andrew wilson who said that battlefield is a true next-gen game which everyone was like whoa guess it's not coming to ps4 and xbox one then worry not turns out true next-gen game is a [ __ ] marketing term and the game will still be coming to last gen consoles i cannot believe that andrew wilson would deceive us like this i mean if you can't trust the ceo of ea then who can you trust i'll tell you who you can trust reeling after months of horrendously bad press and a stack of recent high-profile departures stadius head honchos went out on a charm offensive to try to convince the world that stadia totally isn't dead yet quote stadia is alive and well says developer marketing lead nate ahern i tell any non-believers totake notice of how we're continuing to put our words into action well yeah that's exactly what we're doing and that's why we're all laughing but please keep doing these interviews stadia alive and well is too good a headline for me to ignore so what got announced or delayed this week well just in case you missed it square enix held their digital final fantasy 14 fan fest this week where a ton of information was revealed about the future of the final fantasy xiv franchise first up we've got a release date for the ps5 version of the game it arrives on may 25th which is next week it's a free upgrade if you already own it on ps4 so that's fantastic we also got a look at the new class called the reaper which is basically like if the grim reaper was a world of warcraft rogue and if you want a better look at the character in action you can look at this footage of game director yoshi p cosplaying as the new class on stage looking good my man finally and most importantly we got a release date for the end walker expansion it arrives november 23rd on all platforms which is awesome because most of the big games of the year have been released by that point which means i can spend all of december playing final fantasy that is gonna be a great month if you're a fan of ghost runner the cyberpunk meets mirror's edge parkour game then good news the developers have confirmed that a sequel is in development for next-gen platforms and pc the news comes after publisher 505 purchased the rice the franchise so no real surprises that a sequel is coming still we've got confirmation no release date don't expect it any time before 2023 maybe that sounds kind of right galactic civilizations 4 got announced i'm not going to pretend to know anything about this franchise other than it's a space strategy game where you do space strategy things and soon there will be four of them and it's coming at some point no date thank you for tuning in to the very informative this week in video games glad you're here and finally if you made your way through both knee automata and the recent near replicant remastered then good news moreni is on the way in the form of a mobile game called near reincarnation the game has been out in japan for a long time but recently the english translation has been finalized and just this week square enix put out a trailer hyping it up you can pre-register for it on the android and apple store so you'll know the moment it goes live which should be pretty soon given that the hype cycle for mobile games is typically a lot shorter than it is for premium stuff so what came out last week well destiny's season of the splice arrived and it was uh it was a mixed bag after players overcame the day one server issues they found a season brimming with new law a nice new activity and plenty of loot to collect they also found the new transmog system which if you put the brightest minds of our generation into a room and supercharge them with the combined computational power of every piece of technology on planet earth you still couldn't come up with a worse system than bungie have come up with here to transmog one gear set in this cursed game takes 25 hours 25 hours you could finish god of war in the time it takes to transmog one gear set in destiny 2 or you could of course just sling bungie a lazy 10 i'm sure they would prefer that players are rightly furious and bungie are pretending to be surprised by this so they can inevitably walk it back to something only slightly less shitty so that gullible fools can be like see bungie listened good guy no it's so annoying i won't review seeds of the splasher until it's over but other than transmog and stasis and pvp so far it's good i like it i recommend it but my god the trans moon [ __ ] sucks anyway uh assassins creed valhalla wrath of the druids expansion hit and it seems to have gone over pretty well with critics sitting in the mid 70s on metacritic pc invasion scored at 80 saying quote though there are a few minor issues assassin's creed valhalla wrath of the druids gives you a lot of reasons to continue ivor's journey thanks to a lush and vibrant land to explore while pc mag was a little more critical scoring at a 60 saying quote wrath is good if you're hungry for more valhalla i'm not but the new features add minimally to the experience so this dlc won't make many converts the most exciting release of last week was the mass effect legendary edition a remaster of the classic trilogy that is now playable at 4k 60 fps on current game consoles as it stands right now mass effect legendary edition is the second highest rated game of the year on metacritic after disco elysium's final cut reviews point to a solid job refreshing the visuals touching up a few mechanics here and there but the bulk of the score goes to the fact that all these years later mass effect remains an unsurpassed masterpiece in its genre and one of the best science fiction properties across any medium with bioware taking another swing at a new mass effect sequel it seems the legendary edition has only raised the stakes for them yet again no pressure guys and finally everyone seems plenty happy with subnautica below zero but there's consensus that it's a lot less breakthrough and ambitious than its predecessor ign scored at a 90 saying quote subnautica below zero is a leaner meaner standalone expansion to subnautica that improves on the story and mechanics but doesn't give us as much room to explore while pc gamers scored an 85 cent quote below zero is a mostly brilliant sequel to the best survival game of all time so what's coming out this week well for starters days gone is out for pc today enjoy it because there's no sequel coming ben studios tried and sony said no it's a shame because while day's gone was far from perfect it had plenty of redeeming qualities that got shouted down during a fairly critical review cycle i liked it but yeah it's not a must play it's just a good game that you can now play in ultra wide if you have the monitor for it elite dangerous gets its odyssey update on the 19th for pc adding the ability to land on planets get out of your ship and shoot stuff in first person style if that's the thing you want to do this one's been in the works for a long time so it's great to see it finally get a release knockout city okay plenty to say on this one i haven't tried it yet but i've heard lots of positive buzz from people who have played it which is rare for these sorts of games since a lot of them seem to kind of disappear the day after they go live secondly this one has been confirmed as a day one release for game pass so if you have game pass you can scoop this up on the 21st for xbox or pc if you aren't on those platforms or you don't have game pass then get this they're doing a 10-day free trial for this game no strings attached just play it for 10 days  and that's it like totally free thistells me that the team have a lot of confidence in this product because as i said these sorts of games rarely last 10 hourshopefully this delivers the next fourguys rocket league casual competitive thing we've been looking forthat'd be nice miitopia gets a switch release on the 21st it was originally released on the 3ds so of course nintendo are packaging it up and selling it to us again in 2021 it's a  lightweight rpg where you get your weird-looking me characters to do rpg things it looks like south park's the stick of truth except without the irony fight jokes and senseless killing speaking of senseless killing rust is arriving on ps4 and xbox one on the 21st it's been out on pc for what like 12  years not quite but a while and now it's arriving on consoles so you can get ganked on a whole new platform have fun biggest release of the week is the little rodent that could biomutant this one has a huge amount of hype behind it even though it's a new ip and it's double a game and it's a small dev team the odds are stacked against this one but despite that people are pumped because all the footage they've seen looks fantastic it's a reminder that big marketing dollars aren't the only way to get your game noticed sometimes you just make a cool looking game and the rest takes care of itself anyway buyer mutant is out on the 25th for ps4 xbox one and pc this week's put this on your radar comes courtesy of my editor austin who basically said if you don't highlight this game this week i quit and while that's a very heavy-handed way to get things done it's also very effective because without austin i'd be screwed so put this on your radar this is unbeatable a game where music is illegal and you youtube crimes and this is how it looks this is unbeatable an indie game currently in kickstarter that's looking just a little bit awesome it's a rhythm game with an entirely original soundtrack that already seems to kick pretty hard but that isn't all it's also a narrative driven rpg where between each mission you'll be either helping or ignoring your friends and doing general rpg sidequesty stuff the package is looking very schmidt and if you want to check itout for yourself there's a playable demo available right now i'll leave a link in the description below sort of free stuff time let's mix it up and talk about game pass first we've already mentioned that knockout city will be there on the 21st so there's that we also got confirmation that dungeons and dragons dark alliance will be a day one game past release as well but that isn't until the 22nd of june so that's a month from now footage for that one just got spilled out over the inter tubes and it's looking a little shaky i don't want to judge it until i play it but yeah i've definitely got some question marks about that one good news playstation fans sony are extending their play at home program with more free stuff the bad news it's a whole bunch of stuff that no one really wants now look to be fair sony has already been more than generous with this program serving up 10 excellent games for totally free when they had no reason to do so they picked a little early though because this new round doesn't include any free games and instead includes a bunch of in-game micro transaction stuff for games like rocket league and road company and world of warships and warframe and a bunch of others can't look at gift horse in the mouth especially when that horse was up until recently a diamond stallion like butt stallion from borderlands if you're interested in a demo for the upcoming anime themed rpg scarlet nexus then you are going to be able to get one of those on the 21st exclusive to xbox at first but arriving on other platforms lateri played this and i actually really liked the combat but i didn't like the storytelling or the open world stuff felt kind of flat anyway decide for yourself when the demo hits and as for the free epic game it hasn't been announced yet but epic are hyping it up usually when they hype up games like this it's pretty cool and it does arrive so

i don't know i guess we'll see finally our feel-good story for the week is well i don't know if you'd call it feel good but you definitely call it feel something this week at the final fantasy fan fest the game's legendary composer masayoshi sokon took to the stage to reveal that for the past year he had been fighting cancer his announcement took everyone by surprise including the dev team since he didn't want to share the information with them because he was worried it would cause them to stress and distract them from their work what's stunning is that he spent nearly seven months in hospital and while he was there he was still working producing some of the best tracks the game had yet seen including the spectacular to the edge
